I hope someone could help me answer these questions...

1. on the editor thing, what does potential mean and do? does it work?

Releasing Single

1. What is most important... lyrics, melody or commercial?

2. What would you advice be the amount of time between singles?

3. The first single of an album... is it good to release it before the album, same time or after

if anyone has advise to these, I would be grateful

I personally don't know what potential means, but I know that artists such as Beyonce and Adele have high potential, which could mean their overall artist status.

If you want a single to sell the most it can, then aim for commercial. Commercial ratings over 80 on a single is great, but it needs Melody and Lyrics to compliment it (preferably score over 75 for both). The timing of singles shouldn't be something to worry, as there isn't any penalties [that I haven't noticed] when releasing singles around the same time.

Releasing singles are just ways to hype an album (which in the game, doesn't) and make money to cover the makings of an album. Release as many singles as you want and whenever. Releasing singles before an album is something close to realistic, which is a +1 from me. Some artists release two or three singles before the album, and wait several months after the album to release more singles, but those are promotional singles.

When is a single or album considered a flop?

There isn't a way to call a single or album flop, but in my opinion, I consider a single a flop if

  • The income from the single doesn't recoup the expenses
  • I put a lot of marketing into it, but achieve less than Platinum status

It varies depending on artists which I consider flop, but the more reputation and past success from their sales, then the higher the expectations.

Potential is for stats increase. Its not as simple as you might imagine however or would be predictable.

Melody and commercial then lyrics.

Time between isnt so much of a problem, just like in real life.

Promotion of any kind is good before a release.
