To make the game more real I think it would be interesting that when you setup your game between 1950 and 2004, only physical sales should be available, in 2005 digital should be available and physical sales of singles would still exist but it would be low.

 

From february 2005, Youtube should be available and from October 2008 Streaming should be available.

 

And it would be interesting that after each year the market would decrease or increase.

 

Ex: 2011: 1,000,000,000 albums sold WW

2012: 932,000,000 albums sold WW

2013: 854,000,000 albums sold WW

2014: 869,000,000 albums sold WW

...

This will only make sense id mods are made and are that many people interested in it because it would involve a bit of work to say the least.
