Lets define what is a deluxe album.

What do you think that criteria actually?

It could be literally anything that the record company wants the consumer to believe provides added value - bonus tracks, extra remix CD or live DVD, limited edition artwork booklet... thicker vinyl / gold CD... blessed by the Pope... It's just a marketing term, similar to 'Special Edition', 'Collector's Edition', etc.

I think deluxe albums are great, they are the origional albums from an artist with a few extra songs on that maybe they have released as non album singles. For the sake of the game and simpler coding.  Maybe a deluxe album should have to include all the songs from the origional album, and can also contain songs not from the album. However, the songs not originally on the album have to have been released as a single up to a year after the albums release. This then would allow the separation and create a clear different between greatest hits albums and deluxe albums.

It would also be fantastic if the deluxe album sales are joined with the origional album sales (like explained in the conversation below with singles) as this is how it works in real life.

The conversation about remixed singles would be great for the deluxe albums as well as it gives you a chance to add the remix version or duet version to the album

This, and since the game currently limits you to 16 songs on an album, a deluxe album would allow the re-release of the album that can have additional songs added to it as well as the other options elijero mentioned.

A deluxe album is basically re-release an album, so it can be done in 1.2

wait how do you rerelease albums in 1.2?

Go to the albums section, clic on the album you want to re-release, then clic on the "Action" button and choose "Re-release album". The only inconvenients I see is that the album must be discontinued to be re-released and if the re-released album has more than 16 songs, it can bug 😞

Except re-releases don’t do much sales, they usually flop compared to the original album

Yes, but it what usually happens in reality unless it is a big album 😕

Not really though, it should count different for certain scenarios. For example The Fame Monster was an EP attached to the original album and outsold it exponentially, and TF wasn't even a big album to begin with.

I think the key to deluxe albums is having the sales link up with their origional album. Most recently, dua lipa has released her deluxe version of future nostalgia. Because of this, her chart performance in the UK (not sure about other places) has jumped and her album is now back in the top 5. This is due to the fact that deluxe album sales are linked with origional sales. This is the key difference between a deluxe album and re-release album.

A deluxe album should also only be able to be released within a year of the origional album and no later (to prevent you getting sales years and years down the line)
